Tamim Iqbal informed the BCB of his unavailability for the tour, which includes three T20s and two Tests in India in November 2019, citing the expected birth of his second child as the reason for his withdrawal. The board has also confirmed that a replacement for Tamim will be announced soon.

BCB had brought in Imrul Kayes to the preparation camp but he hasn’t officially been announced as the replacement opener for now.

”Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal Khan has pulled himself out of the Tour of India on personal grounds,” said a BCB press release. ”Tamim had communicated his reasons for wanting to miss the tour and the Board has accepted the request. The BCB will name a replacement for Tamim shortly,.’

The southpaw decided to skip the India series in its entirety after receiving an update on his wife’s health. Earlier there was speculation that he might miss part of India series but eventually decided to stay back with his wife in Bangkok.

”We have brought Imrul as the coach wanted to observe him but we are yet to decide whether he will be replacement or not,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told reporters when asked about the possibility about Imrul Kayes replacing the regular opener, Tamim Iqbal.

The seasoned left-handed opener opted out of the one-off Test against Afghanistan and the T20I tri-nation series citing fatigue, following a poor run of form during the World Cup. He did, however, get some much-needed match practice by participating in the opening round of the National Cricket League

Tamim had a below-par outing in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accumulated only 21 runs over the course of the series, adding to his string of poor scores dating back to the 2019 World Cup where he scored just one fifty and ended up with 235 runs from eight innings at an average of 29.37.

Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 internationals and two Test matches on their tour of India, scheduled from November 3-26.
