Chamod Yodhasinghe Sprints to Bronze in Men’s 100m

The championship commenced on Saturday, June 7, with Sri Lankan sprinter Chamod Yodhasinghe making his mark in the men’s 100m heats. He blazed through the track, clocking an exceptional 10.29 seconds to win his heat- a performance that not only qualified him for the finals but also stood out as one of his personal bests in the event. We also witnessed Chamod compete recently in South Korea, seemingly getting better and better.

In the final held on Sunday, June 8, Chamod maintained his momentum and finished third, securing the bronze medal with a time of 10.38 seconds. His podium finish brought pride to the Sri Lankan camp, marking a significant achievement in his athletic journey.

Nadisha Lekamge Throws Her Way to Silver

Sri Lanka’s only female representative at the event, Nadisha Lekamge, competed in the women’s javelin throw on Sunday. This medal is thereby very significant to our country. Demonstrating excellent form, she recorded a distance of 56.62 meters, earning her a silver medal. This performance not only earned her a spot on the podium but also marked her personal best for the season.

Notably, Nadisha narrowly missed out on the gold medal, which was claimed by an Indian athlete with a throw of 56.82 meters- just 0.20 meters ahead. Lesandu Arthavidu Finishes 6th in Men’s High Jump

In the men’s high jump, Sri Lanka’s Lesandu Arthavidu also competed on Sunday. Although he couldn’t quite match his personal record, he managed to clear 2.05 meters, finishing sixth overall in a highly competitive field.
