Suranjaya wins 200m; others settle for Silver & Bronze – #SAG2016 Day 6

Vinoj Suranjaya made certain that Sri Lanka bagged both the 100m and 200m Men’s titles with his best run while the other were not so fortunate to taste gold on Day 6 at the 2016 South Asian Games.

Vinoj Suranjaya won the 200m Men’s event in 21.00secs with a personnel best timing. Pakistan’s Liaqat Ali piped Sri Lanka’s A.R.M.Rajaskhan for the Bronze Medal finishing in 21.53secs while Rajaskhan finished in 21.56secs.

In the Men’s 4x400m relay Sri Lanka won the Silver Medal finishing in 3:07.59mins, while the Women’s 4x400m relay team also won the Silver finishing in 3:38.89mins.

In the Women’s 1500m Gayanthika Abeyrathna won the Silver and Nilani Rathnayake won the Bronze Medal. Abeyrathna finished with a timing of 4:25.75mins missing out on a Gold which India’s Chithra P.U won with a timing of 4:25.59mins. Rathnayake finished in 4:26.70mins.

Sanjeewa Lakmal won the Silver Medal in the Men’s 1500m finishing in 3:54.16mins.

In the Women’s 400m Hurdles Kaushalya Madushani beat country woman Eranga Dulakshi for the the Bronze Medal. Madushani finished with a timing of 59.87secs while Dulakshi finished with 1:00.05

 Sandaruwan sets record; 4×100 Men miss record – #SAG2016 Day 5 

Nadeeka Lakmali had to settle for a Bronze Medal in the Women’s Javelin Throw with a distance of 54.82m. Annu Rani of India won the Silver with a throw of 57.13m and Suman Devi also from India threw a distance of 58.45m to win the Gold. Incidentally Lakmali set a New Meet Record in the National Sports Festival last December with a throw of 58.52m and hold the Sri Lanka Record of 60.64m which she set in 2013.

S.A.Lamahewage won the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 10,000m finishing in 36:11.39mins.
