ThePapare.com is pleased to announce that Supun Warnakulasuriya of CR & FC has been voted in as the Most Popular Club Rugby Player for the 2017/18 Dialog Rugby League.

ThePapare’s Most Popular Club Rugby Player competition for this year’s Dialog Club Rugby season commenced soon after the conclusion of the 1st round of action. This time around we invited the fans to send in nominations for who they think is deserving of the title.

After a long list of over 30 nominees, the voting for the award commenced and it was later shortlisted to 10 individuals. Out of the total 13230 votes that were submitted throughout the three weeks, CR & FC’s Supun Warnakulasuriya obtained the highest percentage of votes accumulating 7051, accounting to 53%.

In second and third places were Police SC’s Wajid Fawmy with 3698 votes and CH & FC Hashan Maduranga who collected 1045.

Warnakulasuriya, an emerging prospect in the CR & FC lineup was a part of the Royal College league title triumph in 2015. He was also the top try scorer that year in the schools’ format.

Making his entry to club rugby in CR & FC colours, Warnakulasuriya has adapted himself to play at hooker for the side.
