Superb Sammu Ashan wins it for Ananda

All-round brilliant, Sammu Ashan produced a scintillating performance as Ananda College beat Nalanda College by 5 wickets in their 41st annual limited overs encounter worked out at SSC grounds on Sunday. 

The match was reduced to 42 overs due to overnight rain and Ananda skipper Sammu decided to field after winning the toss. Nalanda struggled to post a competitive score with only Kasun Sandaruwan making 41 runs with the bat. Top-order batter Ravin Dasanayake made 30 while Dilan Samaraweera stroked valuable 22 runs not out at the end overs as Nalandians were restricted to 150 for 8. Skipper Sammu Ashan captured 4 wickets with his off-spinners. 

Chasing a below-par score of 151, Ananda managed to cross the winning line with 8.4 overs to spare. Sammu’s willow talked as he stroked a quick-fire half-ton while left-handed Sahan Arachchige excelled with 45 runs. Senura Perera captured 2 wickets for the losing outfit. 

Sammu Ashan was named Man of the Match.
