Royal College Colombo pulled off an impressive win today against Mahinda College Galle ending today at Reid Avenue.
Mahinda College winning the toss weren’t hesitant to elect to bat but this did not seem the best decision they made of the game when their first wicket fell with the score reading 8 when Thiran Dhanapala caught opener Ishara Akalanka off the bowling of Himesh Ramanayake.
The situation got from bad to worse for the visiting team as the lineup fell like a pack of cards with Lasith Ambuldeniya doing the bulk of the damage capturing 4 wickets for just 22 runs while Himesh ended up with 3 for 20 runs. The Mahinda College innings ended at a mere 55 runs.

It was a delight on the other hand with the bat for the Royalists who seemed to belt the ball to all parts of the ground with both openers bringing up half centuries. Naveen Withanapathirana ended with a top unbeaten notch of 80 while partner Hasitha Samarasinghe scored 64 eventually running himself out to a brilliant piece of fielding by Tharaka Samarawikrama. Royal’s quick 2 hour 155 runs put them in a strong situation and it was a sporty declaration by the skipper who clearly wanted the win.

The story wasn’t much different for the boys from Galle as the results was pretty much the same, the top scorer Sachika Udara scored 18 runs while the others fell for lesser scores. It was a surge of defence by the Mahinda boys but Royal skipper Samarasinghe snatched 4 wickets for 20 while being well supported by Ambuldeniya who captured 3 for 25 and ending with a match bag of 7 wickets. Mahinda College only managed to score 82 runs falling 20 runs short of the required score to put back Royal into bat.

Royal College recorded their second win today by defeating Mahinda College Galle by Innings and 20 runs.
