It was a tragic fate for the rugby players of C. W. W. Kannangara situation in Baseline Road, when their rugby equipment room caught fire destroying all of their gear with four months to go for the season. This meant that it was the end of the road for the team in the upcoming rugby season but the generous rugby fraternity came forward in helping the school to get back on the game.

The Thomian rugby team who took it upon themselves to lend a helping hand and a collection by the team, saw the players donating a set of equipment to the school. The handing over of the equipment was done a few days ago at the Kannangara Vidyalaya premises in the presence of the teacher in charge and members of the rugby team.
Earlier this year, several donors came forward in support of the school in empowering the school with donations coming in the form of equipment and financial aid making sure that the hopes and the aspirations of the boys will live on for many more years to come.
