St. Peter’s College retained the Rev. Fr. Peter Pillai Memorial Shield, beating St. Joseph’s College by 4 wickets in their 51st annual Limited Overs Cricket Encounter played today (3rd May) at SSC Grounds, Colombo.

Having been asked to bat first, St. Joseph’s College were bowled out for just 177 runs in 49 overs. The opening batter Aveesha Samash top scored with a knock of 75 runs off 120 balls with 3 fours and a six.

The Josephian No. 3 batter Abhishek Jayaweera and Nushan Perera chipped in with crucial knocks of 30 and 34 runs respectively.

Lashmika Perera and Enosh Peterson were the pick of the bowlers for St. Peter’s College as they bagged 2 wickets each.

St. Peter’s College managed to chase down the target of 178, but they had to work hard as the Josephian bowlers did put up an excellent fight with the ball.

The opening batter Dilana Damsara was the chief architect of the run-chase for St. Peter’s College as he made 60 runs off 95 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes at the top of the order. Peterson also chipped in with a crucial 37 runs in the middle order.
