St. Joseph’s clinch first innings

Hashindra Perera collected a match bag of eight for 78 runs, including a five wicket haul in the second innings helped St. Joseph’s College clinched first innings points over St. Benedict’s College in their U-19 inter-school cricket match concluded at Kotahena today.

After bowling hosts out for paltry 134 runs St. Joseph’s College amassed 256 before declaring with four wickets in hand. At stump on the final day St. Benedict’s were 136 for eight.

Josephian’s innings was propelled by an unbeaten 73 by Fabian Fernando and 61 by Yashan Samarasinghe who together lift them to a commanding position before Hashindra Perera with a five for 48 almost took them to an outright wi. St. Benedict’s batted out 70 overs to score 136 in the second innings.

 Fabian Fernando was also impressed with the ball claiming three for 18 in St. Benedict’s first innings
