St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena booked their place in the final of the Under-19 Division 1 Tier ‘B’ Limited Overs Tournament 2025/26 with a hard-fought victory over De Mazenod College, Kandana in the semi-final encounter played today (1st November) at Surrey Village Grounds, Maggona.
After winning the toss, St. Benedict’s College elected to bat first but found it difficult to build partnerships, eventually being bowled out for 161 runs.

Middle-order batter Vihanga Rathnayaka top-scored with a fighting 46 runs off 73 balls, which included 2 boundaries and a six. De Mazenod’s spearhead Savinu Chanthula was outstanding with the ball, wreaking havoc in the St. Benedict’s batting line-up to claim 6 wickets for 47 runs.
Chasing a modest target, De Mazenod College got off to a dream start as openers Sharith Sudeena and Ushan Adithya put on a superb 105-run partnership for the first wicket.
However, the game turned dramatically thereafter as De Mazenod suffered a shocking batting collapse, losing their remaining nine wickets for just 36 runs, to be dismissed for 141.
The comeback was led by the St. Benedict’s bowlers, with Lithika Pasandul (4/48) and Mevan Dissanayake (3/23) delivering match-winning spells to seal a memorable victory for their team.
With this win, St. Benedict’s College advance to the final, keeping their hopes alive for the Tier ‘B’ title, while De Mazenod College bow out after a spirited campaign.
