St. Aloysius College, Galle recorded a stunning 2-wicket victory over the strong Isipathana College outfit in their ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 19 Schools T20 Tournament 2015/16 Pre-Quarter Final encounter played at Mahinda College, Grounds on Thursday.

With this win, St. Aloysius College advanced to the quarter-finals where they will take on S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.

After opting to bat first, Isipathana managed to score only 104 runs as they were bowled out in the penultimate delivery of their innings. Wicket-keeper batsman Vishad Randika top-scored with 25 while left-handed vice-captain Pramod Maduwantha made 17. In-form bowlers, Ravindu Sanjana and Sajith Sankalpa took 4 wickets each.

The boys from Galle chased down the target with two balls to spare. Gihan Niroshan played a blinder of an innings to anchor them to victory scoring an unbeaten 37 runs. Left-arm spinner Lahiru Dilshan picked up 3 wickets for the hosts’.

S. Thomas’ College vs Gurukula Vidyalaya

Captain Sachitha Jayathilake’s excellent all-round performances guided S. Thomas’ College to a close 15-run win over the minnows, Gurukula Vidyalaya Kelaniya in their ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 19 Schools T20 Tournament 2015/16 Pre-Quarter Final encounter played at Mount Lavinia on Thursday.

After taking the first lease to bat, the hosts’ were in dire straits at 52 for 5 when captain and vice-captain, Sachitha and Yohan Mendis took their team to a defendable 134. Jayathilake smashed 3 sixes and 4 fours during his 34-ball 47 while Mendis made 32 off 33 deliveries. Fast-bowler and skipper Jayamal Wanniarachchi captured 4 scalps for 36 off his 4 overs.

Chasing 135 runs to win, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals as only two batsmen got to double-figures. Opener Lasindu Arosha played a fighting and lone knock of 61 from 40 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes but they were folded for only 119 with 10 balls to spare. Sachitha took 3 wickets while part-time spinner Sithara Hapuhinna captured 2 wickets.

Prince of Wales College vs Lumbini College

Prince of Wales College booked their place in the quarter-finals of the ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 19 Schools T20 Tournament 2015/16 beating Lumbini College by 28 runs in their pre-quarter final played at Colts grounds on Thursday.

The Cambrians opted to bat first but they could not bat out their quota of 20 overs as they were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs. Two-drop right-handed batsman Kasun Ekanayake top-scored with 35 while Sanoj Dharshika contributed with 26. Off-spin duo of Mohommad Akram and Thanuka Dabare grabbed 2 wickets each.

Chasing a solitary 115 runs to win, Lumbini faltered at the hands of Prince of Wales College spinners. Chanaka Devinda was the only batsman to show some resistance scoring an unbeaten 27 while off-spinner Savindu Peiris took 3 scalps for the winners. Prince of Wales College will next play the winner of Nalanda College vs St. Joseph Vaz College encounter.
