Chilaw Marians’ loss to Ragama paved the way for SSC to lift the SLC Tier A Premier League title for 2016/17

Colts vs Tamil Union 

Colts beat Tamil Union by 182 runs at Panagoda today. The match was evenly poised at the start of play with Tamil Union 203 for 4 chasing 462. They had a horrible start to the day by losing 2 wickets for just 12 runs. Sithira Gimhan was the key for Tamil Union but his dismissal brought the collapse in their innings. Akila Dhananjaya was lethal with the ball as he took control of the game and chipped away at the wickets. Tamil Union lost their last 6 wickets for just 75 runs. Akila bagged 5 wickets which guided Colts to a convincing 182 run victory. 

Early on, Colts were bundled out for 218 for their first innings thanks to a Five-for by Dulanjana Mendis. In reply, Tamil Union could only make 168 runs with Ishan Jayarathne taking 5 for Colts. Colts for their second innings posted a mammoth 411 runs with half centuries from Sadeera Samarawickrama, Priyamal Perera, Vishad Randika and Angelo Jayasinghe.

Chilaw Marians vs Ragama 

Ragama shattered Chilaw Marians’ chances of winning the league title as they beat them by 7 wickets in their final match in the Super 8 round. Ragama were cruising at stumps with 114 for the loss of 1 wicket. Lahiru Milantha went on to convert his overnight score of 44 to a well composed 62 for his side. Even though they lost two wickets in the morning session Akshu Fernando and skipper Sameera De Soyza finished the job in style. Chilaw Marians not only lost the match but they lost the chance of lifting the league title this year. 

Early on, Chilaw were cleaned up for 168 runs with Nilanka Premarathne taking 5 for 41. In reply, Ragama made 276 all out with a brilliant 93 by Saminda Fernando. Chilaw were much better in the second innings but they could only make 295 all out which gave Ragama a solitary target of 188 runs for victory.
