Apparel giant MAS Holdings has partnered up with Sri Lanka Cricket to empower the women’s national cricket team that will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from the 21st of February to the 8th of March.

As apparel sponsor of Sri Lanka Cricket, MAS Holdings unveiled the official jersey the Women’s team will wear at the tournament, at a special press briefing held at SLC headquarters in Colombo while launching their inspirational ‘Diriya Denna’ campaign, calling on the nation to rally behind the team as they step onto the world stage to represent Sri Lanka. Like the men’s jersey unveiled prior to the Cricket World Cup in 2019, this jersey too is made up of recycled ocean waste, a venture pioneered by MAS Holdings.

Atapattu, Samarawickrama to lead Women’s T20 World Cup squad

21-year-old Harshitha Samarawickrama was retained as vice captain of the Sri Lankan national team…..

“We have aligned this partnership with our ‘Diriya Denna’ initiative – empowering and encouraging not only our sportswomen, but young girls and women across Sri Lanka to fearlessly pursue any path, challenge stereotypes and become leaders for our nation. By promoting the game and rallying the country around our women’s team, we also want to emphasize the importance and impact of women in representing Sri Lanka internationally.” Stated Head of Women’s Empowerment, Advocacy and Code of Conduct of MAS, Thanuja Jayawardene at the event.

Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Atapattu went on to say, “Our country is beautiful but unfortunately there is a lot of pollution around our coast, things we ourselves do that destroy our coastline. MAS and the Sri Lanka Navy are doing a lot to counter this. They have designed this yarn out of the plastic bottles they have collected in our seas. So, to wear a jersey that represents that for my country, it makes me very proud.”
