Sri Lanka produced a spirited all-round performance to register a hard-fought victory over West Indies in the opening Women’s ODI of the three-match series played today in Grenada.

Having been put into bat first, the visitors laid a solid platform to post a competitive 240 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to two vital half-centuries at the top of the order. Harshitha Samarawickrama anchored the innings with a composed 66 off 105 deliveries, striking five boundaries, while Hasini Perera provided positive support with a fluent 61 from 86 balls that included six fours.

In response, West Indies fought hard in pursuit of the target but were gradually pegged back by Sri Lanka’s disciplined spin attack. The experienced Inoka Ranaweera led the charge with a superb spell of 4 for 44, while the ever-reliable Kavisha Dilhari chipped in with 3 for 49, as the pair shared seven wickets between them to derail the chase.
