Sri Lanka registered a five-wicket win over South Africa in the third match of Women’s Tri-Nation ODI Series 2025 played today (2nd May) at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and inserted South Africa into bat. The hosts got off to a good start as South African opening pair Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt departed early.

The wicket-keeper batter Karabo Meso also couldn’t get going and perished as the visitors were struggling at 59/3.

Lara Goodall and Sune Luus got together and kept the scoreboard ticking. The latter was busy at the crease since she arrived and the duo stabilized things for their side with a half-century stand.

Goodall chanced her arms and struck some boundaries, but she was lucky as well as she was dropped twice. The debutant, Dewmi Vihanga, struck twice in quick succession to change the flow of the game once again as both the set batters departed.

A 62-run stand between Chloe Tryon and Annerie Dercksen gave some momentum to the visitors. Dercksen in particular batted with a lot of composure and raised a fifty to take her side to a competitive score.

Malki Madara and Vihanga were the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as they finished with a 4-fer and a 3-fer respectively.

Sri Lanka faced a huge blow in the run-chase as they lost the skipper Athapaththu for just 6 runs in the 3rd over of the innings. The opening batter Hasini Perera made a useful contribution of 42 runs, but it was the partnership between Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari that turned the game in favor of their side.

The duo added 128 runs for the 4th wicket. They kept out the good balls, turned the strike over and struck the boundaries off the loose ones.

Samarawickrama was the top scorer for the hosts as she struck 77 runs off 93 balls with 8 fours while Dilhari chipped in with a knock of 61 runs off 75 balls with 6 fours and a six.
