India registered a 97-run win over Sri Lanka in the final of Women’s Tri-Nation ODI Series 2025 played today (11th May) at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Having won the toss, the visiting skipper Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat first and they managed to post a mammoth score – 342/7 on the board in the allotted 50 overs.

They were led by Smriti Mandhana’s 101-ball 116 at the top of the order. The stylish left-hander made Sri Lanka pay for dropping her on 21 and she was involved in two big partnerships – 70 for the first wicket with Pratika Rawal and 120 for the second with Harleen Deol.

Mandhana’s innings was followed by attractive 40s from Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues as India ran up a massive total.

Sri Lanka were poor in the field and their bowlers couldn’t sustain any sort of momentum. Malki Madara, Dewmi Vihanga and Sugandika Kumari claimed 2 wickets each for the hosts.

Sri Lanka needed someone to play a massive innings to chase down this mammoth target of 343. There were a few starts, but no one was able to convert them to a long innings.

The skipper Chamari Athapaththu once again stood out with a fighting half-century for the hosts while Sneh Rana was India’s standout bowler and she finished with a 4-wicket bag.

India came into the tournament as the hot favourites and managed to complete a resounding victory in the final. The hosts did punch above their weight right through the tournament, but they were distinctively second best on the big day.
