Sri Lanka ‘A’ registered a thrilling victory over India ‘A’ via Super Over in the fourth match of the Tri-Nation ‘A’ One Day Series played today (15th June) at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss, Sri Lankan skipper Sahan Arachchige elected to bowl first. India ‘A’ posted a competitive total of 265, thanks largely to fighting half-centuries from Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam.

The visitors were in deep trouble at one stage, reeling at 143 for 7, before the pair came together to produce a vital 104-run partnership for the eighth wicket that rescued the innings. Shedge top-scored with 72 runs, while Nigam contributed 51.

For Sri Lanka ‘A’, wrist-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and seamer Mohamed Shiraz were the standout bowlers, claiming three wickets apiece to keep India within reach.

In reply, Sri Lanka ‘A’ matched the target exactly, finishing on 265 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs.

The chase was anchored by an excellent innings from Sadeera Samarawickrama, who struck a superb 93 off 113 deliveries, including seven boundaries. The experienced batter looked set for a century but fell agonisingly short by just seven runs.

With the scores level at the end of the 50 overs, the match was decided by a Super Over. Batting first in the Super Over, Sri Lanka ‘A’ piled on 16 runs to put the visitors under pressure. In response, the visitors managed only nine runs, handing the hosts a memorable victory.

The dramatic triumph was Sri Lanka ‘A’s second win of the tournament and lifted them to the top of the points table with four points from three matches.
