Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara completes a star-studded MCC line-up for the historic fixture against Afghanistan on Tuesday 11th July at the Lord’s grounds.
The two Pakistani run-machines Misbah Ul-haq and Younis Khan, who hit 28,922 international runs between them, join a list of legends that are due to play in the match including former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who recently completed 1000 runs in the English county season and ex-West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
The fixture will give spectators one of the last chances to see both players in action following their retirements from international duty with Pakistan – finishing with a flourish by clinching their first ever series win against the West Indies last month.
During his international career, Misbah hit 5,222 Test runs at an average of 46.62 with a further 5,122 runs in One-Day Internationals.
Younis meanwhile finished with a Pakistan record 10,099 Test runs at an average of 52.20 while also adding 7,249 runs in One-Day Internationals for his country.
Captained by former New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum, MCC will face an Afghanistan side appearing at the Home of Cricket for the very first time in their history in a 50-over match
With a total of 42,690 One-Day International runs scored within the line-up, MCC’s side also contains England all-rounder Samit Patel and former England wicketkeeper Chris Read.
Ireland pair Tim Murtagh and George Dockrell are part of the bowling attack with Surrey bowler Stuart Meaker and Durham seamer Chris Rushworth completing the line-up.
Afghanistan’s progress as a one-day side was witnessed last year after the nation reached the Super 10 of the World Twenty20 finals in India, beating West Indies by six runs in Nagpur.
More recently, spinner Rashid Khan and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi have featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s IPL campaign.
A similar fixture last year saw MCC beaten by Nepal in front of a crowd of nearly 6,000 at Lord’s.
