Sri Lanka came into the game off a defeat after a tightly contested match against Thailand, while Vietnam defeated China in a thrilling 5 sets game.

Early in the 1st set both sides matched each other point for point. Vietnam took a 13-15 lead before Sri Lanka levelled at 16 all. Sri Lanka then upped their game to lead 20-18 but Vietnam fought back to make it 20-20. However, Sri Lanka kept their composure to make it 23-21 and eventually won 25-23.

The 2nd set too was close but Sri Lanka led by two points, 10-8, after the first technical time out (TTO). From 13-12 the islanders went on a 4-0 run to take a healthy 5-point lead at 17-12. Sri Lanka further extended the lead and won the 2nd set 25-18.

Asanka & Yapa finish 3rd in group

Sri Lanka’s Asanka Pradeep Kumara and Malintha Yapa finished 3rd in Pool B in the Men’s Beach Volleyball competition at the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018.

Sri Lanka were leading 12-9 in the 3rd set before Vietnam came back to equalize 13-13 in a set they needed to win. The set looked to be a closely contested match at 15-15 but Sri Lanka took the game by the scruff of the neck scoring 8 unanswered points making it 23-15. Sri Lanka completed the set 25-18.
