Sri Lanka U19s threw away a good start after being 61/1 to be reduced to 149/9 on a rain hit day two in Hobart.

Resuming from their overnight score of 38/1, the visitors looked comfortable initially before Zak Evans cleaned bowled Hasitha Boyagoda and then picked up the key scalp of the Sri Lanka U19s skipper Kamindu Mendis before the game was interrupted by rain.

Vishwa Chathuranga who looked the most composed batsman for the Lankans fell right after the break for 39 to a stunning one handed catch by Param Uppal off the bowling of Iain Carlisle. Sri Lankan’s never recovered from this blow while the game was interrupted frequently due to rain, before the Lankans ended day two still trailing the hosts by 160 runs and just one wicket of their first innings remaining.

While Chathuranga top scored with 39, Krishan Arachchige was promising during his stay making 22 as the rest of the batting crumbled against a disciplined Australia U19 pace bowling attack.

Evans ended with three scalps for the hosts while Lloyd Pope and skipper Will Sutherland picked up two wickets apiece.
