Sri Lanka U19 knock down Malaysia

Sri Lanka under 19s team put up a stunning all-round performance when they crushed the hapless Malaysia under 19 team by a massive 255 runs in their group B encounter in the Under-19s Asia Cup 2013/14 played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 2, Abu Dhabi.

Malaysia won the toss and put Sri Lanka to bat and their decision back fired when Sri Lankans capitalized on some loose Malaysian bowling to put up a match winning score of 287 losing 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Vice Captain Sadeera Samarawickrama scored a well compiled 55 at the top of the innings while Priyamal Perera and Thilaksha Sumanasiri made 68 and 59 respectively to steer the ship in the middle overs while Anuk Fernando made a quick fire 41 runs in 15 balls with 4 maximums to help Sri Lanka post a mammoth score.

Inexperienced Malaysia Under 19s found Sri Lankan bowling attack too much as they faltered against the two left arm fast bowlers of Sri Lanka, Binura Fernando and Anuk Fernando. The Two Fernando’s ripped through the batting line up to create a major collapse in Malaysian batting order as Malaysia were blown away for just 32 runs. Binura took 4 wickets and Anuk took 3 scalps.
