After two impressive wins to start the campaign, Sri Lanka lost to Singapore and Malaysia in the next two games at the 13th Asian Youth Netball Championship 2025.

After two impressive wins to start the campaign, Sri Lanka faultered in the next two games at the 13th Asian Youth Netball Championship 2025 in Jeonju, South Korea.

Sri Lanka v Hong Kong

In their first game Sri Lanka defeated Hong Kong 50-31. A close 1st quarter saw Sri Lanka take a 3-point lead at 11-8. In the 2nd quarter, Sri Lanka managed to stretch the lead even more with good defensive work and decent shooting, scoring 13 from 17 attempts. The young Lionesses won the quarter 13-6 and led 24-14 at half time.

The 3rd quarter was Sri Lanka’s highest scoring quarter with 15 and Hong Kong only managed 8 (39-22). Sri Lanka made changes in the final quarter where they shot 11/19 at 58%. Hong Kong scored 9 of 14.

Bhashi Udagedara scored 29/33 at 88% shooting and 15-year old Mihidhum Keerthisiri had 17/28 at 61%.

Sri Lanka v India

The 2nd match saw Sri Lanka defeat neigbours India 71-30. Sri Lanka won the 1st quarter 15-8 and the 2nd 17-9 as they went into half time at 32-17.

Sri Lanka stepped up their game in the 3rd and 4th quarters winning 21-7 and 18-6. Compared to the game against Hong Kong, Sri Lanka’s goal shooting improved to 90% from 71-79 shooting.

Bhashi Udagedara missed just one attempt scoring 43/44 at 98%. Keerthisiri scored 23 from 28 attempts with a percentage of 82% while Minagee Kankanige, who came on in the 4th quarter, scored 5 from 7 at 71%.

Sri Lanka v Malaysia

In a crucial match against Malaysia, Sri Lanka lost 40-62. Malaysia won the 1st quarter 10-14 and at half time Sri Lanka were only down by 6-goals at 19-25 (9-11).

However, the 3rd quarter proved to be the difference as Malaysia upped their defense and scored 21 from 24 attempts and limited Sri Lanka to 8 from 9 attempts. Scores were 27-46 going into the 4th quarter. Sri Lanka fought neck and neck in the final quarter (13-16) but the game was already gone by then.

Udagedara shot 19 from 22 attempts at 86% while Keerthisiri 84% from 21-25.

Sri Lanka v Singapore

Singapore handed Sri Lanka a devastating 19-62 loss in the final group game. Sri Lanka had never lost to Singapore with a margin this big in any senior or youth level match. Singapore won all the quarters 16-3, 14-4, 16-4 and 16-8.
