West Indies registered a comprehensive victory over Sri Lanka in the opening Test of the two-match series, securing a 1-0 lead at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
Set a daunting target of 318 runs for victory, Sri Lanka resumed Day 4 on 15 for 1 but suffered a dramatic batting collapse, eventually being bowled out for just 101 runs.
Sri Lanka began the day hoping to stage a fightback, but the West Indies pace attack, spearheaded by veteran seamer Kemar Roach, proved too strong to handle.
Roach produced a superb spell, claiming 4 wickets for 51 runs while also reaching the milestone of 300 Test wickets during the match.
Dinesh Chandimal was the lone bright spot in Sri Lanka’s batting effort, scoring a fighting 43 off 60 deliveries, including five boundaries. However, none of the other batters were able to offer significant resistance as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals.
The teams will now shift their focus to the second and final Test of the series, which will be played from 3rd to 7th July at the same venue in Antigua.
