A well-compiled knock of 75 runs from the skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and a fighting half-century from Oshada Fernando helped Sri Lanka draw the second Test match against West Indies played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, hence the 2-match Test series between the two teams also ends in draw (0-0).
The rain interruptions early on the day didn’t allow the play to start on time as the fifth day’s play resumed after waiting for an hour. The Sri Lankan opening pair Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne gave the visitors a great start on final day and they made sure that the first session belonged to Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 93-run stand.
The left-handed duo managed to put on 101-run partnership for the opening wicket but the speedster Alzarri Joseph broke the century stand by inducing Thirimanne’s outside edge in the fifth over of post-Lunch session.
Karunarathna and Oshada Fernando looked promising at the middle and started to build another significant partnership for the visitors but seaming all-rounder Kyle Mayers had other plans as he got the skipper Karunaratne trapped in front for 75 runs.
Fernando and Dinesh Chandimal also showed resistance with the bat putting on a 47-run unbeaten partnership for the third wicket as the match ended in a draw with Test series also ends level 0-0.
Sri Lanka’s premier seam bowler Suranga Lakmal who picked up 11 wickets in the 2-match Test series was handed the man of the series award.
