Sri Lanka Team emerged champions of Aussie Cricket League 2022 as they defeated Pakistan in the final of the tournament held in Casey Fields in Melbourne.

Six teams namely Sri Lanka XI, India XI, Pakistan XI, Australia XI, Afghanistan XI and World XI participated in the tournament. In the Group stage, Sri Lanka were placed 2nd in the Group A having won 1 out of 2 matches played and met India in the Semi Final contest.

In the Semi-Final, Sri Lanka registered a thrilling 4-run win over India and secured their place in the final against Pakistan.

Having won the toss, Pakistan opted to bat first but struggled with the bat against strong Sri Lankan bowling lineup as they were restricted to 104/7 in the allotted 20 overs. The right arm fast medium bower Arosh Janodha was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as he bagged 3 wickets for 20 runs.

Sri Lanka chased down the target in the 19th over losing only 5 wickets and clinched the title. Dilan Chandima was the chief scorer for Sri Lanka as he made 30 runs off 39 balls with 3 fours to his name. Janodha who has been Sri Lanka’s go to bowler throughout the tournament with 8 wickets in 5 matches, won the player of the final award for his heroics with the ball in the final.

Former Sri Lankan opening batter Mahela Udawatte was the captain of the victorious Sri Lanka team while former Sri Lanka fast medium bowler Nuwan Kulasekara also represented Sri Lanka Team in this competition. The legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga was also involved with Sri Lankan setup as one of the members of its coaching staff.
