Thisara Perera will lead a strong 16-man Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India which starts on 10th December in Dharmasala.

Sri Lanka has a 4-21 win-loss record in ODIs this year and currently on a 12-match losing streak in 50-overs cricket. They have suffered three whitewashes in 2017 against South Africa, India and Pakistan – all under Upul Tharanga’s captaincy therefore the selectors announced a new limited-overs captain in Thisara Perera last week.

All-rounder Asela Gunaratne who was sidelined from international cricket after suffering a hand injury against India in Galle in July makes a return into the side to strengthen the middle order along with former skipper Angelo Mathews who missed the ODI series against Pakistan due to injury.

In-form Test captain Dinesh Chandimal who had a horror ODI series against Pakistan, scoring only 41 runs in 5 innings has been dropped along with Chamara Kapugedara, Milinda Siriwardana and Seekkuge Prasanna who all failed to perform in the UAE.

Opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka who averages 42.41 in 12 ODIs this year also makes a return to the side after being surprisingly omitted from the Pakistan ODIs.

Off-spinner Akila Dananjaya will be the only specialist spinner in the squad while left-arm spinning all-rounders, Chathuranga De Silva and Sachith Pathirana have also been added to the touring party.

The 10 ODI specialists are due to leave the island tonight and will join the rest of the players who are currently with the Test squad.
