Sri Lanka seal five gold medals

Sri Lanka produced five gold medals up to yesterday in the 4th Brunei open Athletics Championship at Tutong Sports Complex, Brunei.NCD Priyadarshani won the gold medal for long jump with a leap of 5.90m in the women’s final.

Priyadarshani who is National Champion for the event marked her second international medal this year, she won a medal in the Macau open early this year.

Little known of hurdler Aravinda Chathuranga also won gold in the 400m hurdle with a time of 53.53 seconds. Dilhani Lekamge who is seeded second in the country for the javelin throw won the gold medal for her pet event with a 47. 92 m performance which is below her capabilities. Lekamge, another upcoming javelin thrower, produced by veteran throwing coach AJ Rodrigo who was also the coach for Nadeeka Lakmali and Sachith Maduranga. Her best is a 55 m throw at last national championship which indicates she is ready to carry Sri Lanka hopes for the event in future.

Waruna Lakshan and Milantha Dissanayake were the other gold medalists they won men’s javelin throw and long jump respectively on Saturday.
