As the Inter-International School’s Basketball Tournament draws to a close, the consolation finals of both the boys and girl’s division were held earlier this evening at the British School indoor basketball court. In the girl’s category, CIS took the 3rd spot while Lyceum Nugegoda claimed that spot in the boy’s category.

Girls: Colombo International School (CIS) vs British School in Colombo (BSC)

 CIS managed to secure victory in a close encounter against British School with the game going right down to the wire winning the match by 01 point 32-31. Leia Hamza was the highest scorer for CIS getting 19 points which were more than half the team’s total points while Miharu Ramanayake was the highest scorer for British School getting 10 points for her team.

CIS started the game off strong taking a small lead of 6 points at the end of the first quarter. Leia set up the plays for the team and capitalized on every offensive opportunity and even got in a couple shots from downtown to maintain the lead. CIS managed to keep the lead up until the end of the third quarter but they lost track of the foul count allowing the British players to trail close behind. During the final quarter, CIS lost the plot in the game as the British players took control outscoring CIS by 7 points. The game went right down to the wire in the final few minutes but fortunately for CIS, they led by one point when the final buzzer went off giving them the victory over British School.

Boys: Lyceum International School – Nugegoda (LISN) vs Colombo International School (CIS)

LISN triumphed over CIS to take third place in the Inter-International Schools Basketball tournament with a final scoreline of 53-42. Shivanga De Silva was the highest scorer for CIS getting 17 points while Sandeep was the heavy scorer for Lyceum getting 17 points during the course of the game.

Both teams focused on their defence giving as few open shots to their opponents as possible. LISN put some distance between the two teams on the scoreboard during the second half securing more rebounds giving them more offensive opportunities. The LISN players then moved up to employ a full court press leaving no room for the CIS players to set an offensive play. LISN continued to use their size advantage and increased the deficit. Although during the final few minutes CIS switched to a full court press as well and managed to reduce the deficit to a mere point. Although CIS failed to turn the tables on LISN as they increased the deficit once again and CIS trailed by 9 at the sound of the final buzzer.

 The coach of the LISN had this to say to ThePapare.com after their match, “It was a good game but I don’t think we performed to our best of abilities today and we managed to capitalize on our opponents mistakes to win the match.”
