The finals of the Boys’ Under 17 All Island Schools ‘C’ Division Basketball Championship took place at the St. Joseph’s Basketball courts in Grandpass yesterday.

Following the third-place playoff between Wesley College and Stafford International, the final was worked off between Dharmashoka College and St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa. Eventually Dharmashoka walked away with victory after a tight battle while Wesley College won the consolation finals.

The game started off with the schools trading off shots at both ends, however St Joseph Vaz got the better of the early exchanges and shots as they quickly drifted into the lead. But unforced errors, loose passes, travelling violations and lethargic defending enabled Dharmashoka to take the lead going into the breather.

With the second half well underway, St Joseph Vaz were forced back along with the physicality and speed from the Dharmashoka lads who were already in front. However, as the game progressed, they stuck on to the same gameplay hoping that the opponents would start to falter. Dharmashoka eventually got the better of Joseph Vaz who came back into the game late in the 4th quarter.

In the consolation final between Wesley College and Stafford International, the game started off as a tight contest as both teams wanted to give their supporters something to cheer about. The tense atmosphere was maintained by both teams with Wesley running away with game.
