Mellony Wijesinghe scored 106 goals as Sri Lanka put on a possible record setting performance as they annihilated Nepal 136-7 in their 2nd match of the 11th Asian Youth Netball Championship 2019 played at the Kashima Sports Center, Japan.

Like in the first match against Korea, Sri Lanka raced away from the first whistle and by the half way mark in the 1st quarter, the game was all but over. Sri Lanka Youth vice-captain, Mellony Wijesinghe scored 34 goals from 38 attempts and Dewna Randini added 3 from 3 as the islanders ended the quarter 37-1.

Wijesinghe continued the scoring adding another 38 goals from 42 while Sajini Rathnayake who replaced Dewna scored a perfect 4 of 4. The 2nd quarter score was 42-1 as Sri Lanka went into half time leading 79-2.

Sri Lanka coach Malindu Kumari Gamage sent out Wijesinghe for another quarter where she scored another 34 goals from 36 shots. Rathnayake had 3 from 4. Sri Lanka led the scoring 37-0 in the 3rd quarter (116-2).

Sri Lanka finally rested Wijesinghe giving some respite for the Nepalese. The quarter score was 20-5 with Dewna scoring 13 from 14 shots and Imasha Perera 7 from 8.

Mellony Wijesinghe scored a total of 106 goals from 116 attempts with a shooting accuracy of 91% while Dewna Randini had 16 from 17 with 94% accuracy. Both Imasha Perera and Sajini Rathnayake scored 7 goals from 8 attempts with 88% shooting accuracy.

Sri Lanka will next play Thailand, expected to be a testing match, on 3rd July at 11.30am (SL Time).
