The Sri Lanka Netball Team is currently touring Botswana in preparation for the 2019 Netball World Cup which will be held this July in Liverpool, England.

The 11-day tour will feature 6 practice matches including two against the Botswana National Team. The other four will be against top division club teams. Sri Lanka are currently ranked 19th in the world while Botswana are ranked 23rd.
Last year, Sri Lanka completed a successful tour of Malawi which benefited them in securing the 2018 Asian Netball Championship, after almost a decade, in dominant fashion.
Head Coach of Sri Lanka, Thilaka Jinadasa has been a big advocate of the players getting international experience which has seen the National & Youth teams getting much needed practice matches against quality opposition before tournaments.

23rd May – Sri Lanka v Police Netball Team
24th May – Sri Lanka v BDF-Cats Netball Team
25th May – Sri Lanka v Botswana National Team
27th May – Sri Lanka v UB Crystals Netball Team
28th May – Sri Lanka v Notwane Netball Team
30th May – Sri Lanka v Botswana National Team
Botswana were placed 4th behind Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia in the African Qualifiers for the Netball World Cup. Uganda were placed 1st and even won the African Championship defeating Malawi as the qualifiers were part of the African Championship as well. Zimbabwe qualified for the World Cup in 2nd place.
Botswana’s Results in African Championship;
Zambia 50 – 43 Botswana
Zimbabwe 53 – 28 Botswana
Malawi 58 – 32 Botswana
Uganda 65 – 35 Botswana
Kenya 27 – 55 Botswana
Namibia 56 – 59 Botswana
Sri Lanka were defeated by Kenya 54-35 in the recently concluded Quadrangular Netball Championship. However, Sri Lanka defeated Kenya 50-41 in a practice match after the tournament.
