Sri Lankan seamer suspended from all formats of cricket following drug charges

A Sri Lanka cricketer has been arrested for the possession of illegal drugs by the Pannala Police.

The 25-year-old debuted for Sri Lanka in 2018, made a promising start to his career, grabbing the spotlight on his debut match. Since his flashy opening, the player has failed to earn his spot in the national squad after returning from an injury though he was an active cricketer in domestic competitions.

The player in question will now spend 14 days in remand before he is produced before the High Court. So far, Sri Lanka Cricket has not made any announcement on the player’s future.

According to Sri Lanka Cricket, the right arm seamer has been suspended from all formats of cricket after he was arrested and remanded on the charges of possessing heroin. “We have not been officially informed on this yet. He is a contracted player. We will take action to suspend his contract if he carries a drug charge”, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told Ada Derana.
