Sri Lanka Navy – Stunners, Record Breakers and Champions of the Day

The National and Junior National Swimming Championships for the year 2014 organized by the SLAASU was held on the 2nd of November at the Sugathadasa Stadium Aquatic Complex. Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijeguneratne, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, graced the award ceremony after the completion of the events. 

The performance of the Sri Lanka navy in the Men’s Senior Nationals Division was spectacular, since they won the Championship with 331 points. It should also be mentioned that the Sri Lanka Navy emerged as the 2nd runners-up in the Women’s Senior National Division. They also won all the relay events in the Men’s Senior Division. The swimmers also broke many several records both Relay and National. 

In the tight competition between Musaeus College and Visakha Vidyalaya in the Women’s Senior Nationals Division, Musaeus College triumphed as the Over-all Champions with 189 points, while the latter lost it by 8 points. 

In the Women’s Junior National Division, Mahamaya College, Kandy emerged as the Over-all Champions with 202.05 points, followed by Visakha Vidyalaya (121) and Harischandra College, Negombo (88). 

Men’s Junior National division was won by Killer Whale Aquatics Club (205). Lyceum International School, Wattala (145) and Gateway College (106) emerged as the 1st &2nd runners-up respectively. 

Royal College (149) and Killer Whales Aquatic Club (133) won the 2nd and 3rd places in the Men’s Senior Nationals Division respectively.

It was a day of victories for many swimmers, especially the Raheem sisters and the Abeysinghe brothers who won many awards and broke National records for the Killer Whales Aquatic Club. 

Swimmers were ranked according to the points they received for their events.
