Anika Seneviratne and Janali Manamperi have fought their way into the grand finale of the 2020 Nationals Women’s Singles final. The showdown will take place tomorrow (17) at 2:30 pm at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.

The 2020 Sri Lanka National Tennis Championship kickstarted on the 9th of January at SLTA, as the management took steps to conduct a safe tournament for all involved during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

The first major final of the tournament, the Women’s Singles, is scheduled to take place on an easy Sunday afternoon (17th) at the SLTA hard courts. 3-time Clay Court National and 1-time Hard Court Champion Anika Seneviratne has earned yet another deserved final, while her counterpart and previous finalist Janali Manamperi joins her to fight it out for the title.

Journey to the final

A 32-member draw saw Seneviratne as top rank, and Manamperi starting out as the second seed from the bottom of the draw.

Both players received a Bye in the first round. Seneviratne faced off against Dinethya Darmarathne, while Manamperi took on Yasodara Koralage and breezed through in straight sets. The quarterfinal matches were similar and both women reached the semifinals quickly.

Seneviratne faced off against Savini Jayasuriya to win in straight sets 6,1 / 7,6(1) and booked her spot in the final. Manamperi from the bottom half was left with Hasali Gajaba who went down tamely with scores of 6,4 / 6,1.
