Sri Lanka Legends record third straight win

Sri Lanka Legends beat South Africa Legends by 11 runs in the 10th match of the Road Safety World Series played today (18th September) at Holkar Stadium in Indore.

South African skipper Jonty Rhodes won the toss and invited the Sri Lankans to take the first lease of the wicket. Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dilshan Munaweera opened the innings for Sri Lanka but their stand was restricted for just 2 runs as the former was trapped in front for just 1 run in the very 2nd over of the innings.

Munaweera and Upul Tharanga steadied Sri Lanka’s innings putting on 60 runs off 39 balls for the 2nd wicket. After their dismissals, Sri Lanka lost momentum in the middle but the two cameos from Jeevan Mendis and Asela Gunaratne took Sri Lanka to a competitive score of 165 runs.

Mendis top scored for the islanders with a vital 43 runs off 27 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 159.26.

In reply, South Africa got off to a solid start as they cruised to 50 runs for 1 wicket at the end of the powerplay. The opening batter Morne van Wyk went all guns blazing at Sri Lankan bowlers scoring 76 runs off 56 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes.

However, van Wyk couldn’t put his side over the line as he didn’t get enough support from other batters. Nuwan Kulasekara once again starred with the ball for Sri Lanka taking 2 scalps including the big fish van Wyk.
