Sri Lanka is going in with a very experienced outfit for the tournament which contains 2 players who have played all 6 previous editions of the tourney and 3 other players who have played 5 world cups.

Among them the most experienced player is Priyantha Rajapaksha who has played first class cricket for NCC back in his heyday. The team is led by the right-handed middle-order bat, Yohan Jinasena who is playing his fourth World Cup. He was also the Man of the Tournament in the 2013 edition in India.

The vice-captain of the team comes from down-south who represented Mahinda College Galle before moving to Law College. The opening batsman is also playing his fourth World Cup.

Asela Patabendi is another vital cog in the outfit who has been playing since the inaugural World Cup. He captained the team in Delhi in 2013. Right-arm seamer Manesh Wevita is another player who has played all the editions of the tournament and captained the Sri Lankan contingent in 2015 in Brisbane. All-rounders Tharanga Abeykoon and Buwaneka Basnayake are two other players who were a part of the Sri Lankan outfit in all the World Cups played so far.

The freshers in the squad are the left-arm spinners Kulunu Rodrigo and Tharindu Peiris.

Sri Lanka has never won the Lawyers Cricket World Cup yet but has won the runner-up title twice. This year, the team is in fine form with them having a wonderful pre-season in the country. The strength of the team is the bowling unit with the spinners and speedsters doing an exceptional job for the team.

The Lawyers won the annual Law-Medical encounter this year and were the runners-up in the Professionals Cricket League which includes six teams of several professions. With all these preparations back home, the team will hope to end the tournament on top and return home as champions.
