Sri Lanka Cricket opens a cricket ground in Ratnapura

Sri Lanka Cricket declared open the newly built Ratnapura District Cricket Ground in Monaravila on March 30, 2024, thus providing a much-needed facility for the area, which will help enhance the game in the Sabaragamuwa province. 

The new ground, which consists of seven center turf wickets, will enable schools and clubs in the district to utilize the ground to play matches, conduct practice sessions, and also play U19 cricket. 

The Honorary President of the SLC, Mr. Shammi Silva, declared the facility open, along with the participation of Mr. Kanchana Jayaratne, the President of the Ratnapura District Cricket Association; Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya, Consultant Sri Lanka Cricket; Mr. Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka T20I Captain; and Mr. Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka National Player. 

Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, the members of the executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, and the officials of the Ratnapura District Cricket Association and UVA Province Cricket Association were present at the opening. Cabinet Minister Mrs. Pavithra Wanniarachchi and State Minister Mr. Janaka Wakkumbura also graced the occasion. 

Constructed under Sri Lanka Cricket’s program to build ‘District Cricket Grounds’, covering all the districts in the country, the new ground will be equipped with five side turf wickets and two concrete wickets in the near future. 

The ground is the 11th  such district ground opened by the SLC.
