Current Sri Lanka T20 captain Lasith Malinga, former skipper Thisara Perera and women’s cricket sensation Chamari Atapattu won big at the Annual Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2019 held on the 3rd of December in Colombo.

Close to 50 awards were presented for international and domestic performances between 1st September 2018 to 31st August 2019 in women’s and men’s categories. However, the biggest surprise was the omission of the Cricketer of the Year award.
Atapattu, the dashing left-hander won four awards in the international women’s category – Best T20 Batter, Best ODI batter, Best ODI All-rounder and Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Shashikala Siriwardane, too, won a couple of awards in the Women’s T20I section.
Sri Lanka’s Test and ODI skipper Dimuth Karunaratne walked away with the Best Batsman award in Tests having scored 779 runs in 11 matches during the time period which the awards were adjudicated.
Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera, who bagged 31 wickets in 8 matches was adjudged the Best Test Bowler, while Dhananjaya De Silva won the Best Test All-rounder accolade for his 438 runs and 11 wickets in 10 games.
Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2019 TOMORROW!
Lasith Malinga won both the Best ODI and T20I bowler’s awards having bagged 44 wickets in the two white-ball formats. No other bowler has taken even half of Malinga’s scalps in the stipulated time period.
Thisara Perera won the Best ODI All-rounder’s award as he racked up 476 runs and captured 15 wickets in 23 ODIs. However, surprisingly he also won the Best T20I batsman’s award. From 1st September 2018 to 31st August 2019, Perera was Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer, having made 149 runs in 5 matches.
Left-arm seaming all-rounder Isuru Udana was named the Best T20I All-rounder for his contribution of 134 runs and 2 wickets. Kusal Perera, who notched up the best Test innings in the past year, was awarded the Best ODI Batsman award, for his 704 runs in 20 matches.

Exciting young opening batsman Pathum Nissanka won the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, while Kumar Dharmasena was unanimously named the Best International Umpire of the Year.
