Sugathadasa Stadium was the host for Colombo Super League ‘A’ Division matches which continued last evening. Colombo Bulls faced off against Navy SC while HSC Blacks played Police SC.

Colombo Bulls Vs Navy SC

Navy SC got off to a solid start scoring 22 points to Colombo Bull’s 10 points in the first quarter but was unable to keep up the scoring in the subsequent quarters as the match ended in a tie. Bulls managed to outscore Navy during the extra period of play by a narrow 2 points. Dhanuka Dilshan and Keshwa Perera were the main offensive players for the Bulls scoring 18 and 13 points respectively for their team. Anushka Dilan was the highest scorer for Navy securing 23 points for his team.

Colombo Bulls came back strongly in the second quarter after being outscored by 12 points in the first quarter. It was during this quarter that the Bulls started settling into the game and tightening their defence. This allowed the Bulls to outscore Navy in the third quarter as well. However, Navy managed to come back strongly in the fourth quarter to secure a 1-point lead which resulted in the match ending in a tie. At the extra time given, Colombo Bulls took advantage of the mistakes made by Navy and made sure that their free throws went in to finally end the game victorious.

HSC Blacks Vs Police SC

The second game of the day went in favour of HSC Blacks, winning by 10 points, with a final score line of 73-63. Daniel Mosiuk and Nichula Liyanage were the highest scorers for the Blacks securing 19 and 17 points respectively for their team. E. Venujan was the main offensive player for Police scoring 20 points for his team.

The game tipped off with an easy under the basket for the Blacks, however, Police retaliated with back to back layups by E. Venujan which gave Police an early lead. It was a hard-fought battle with Police dominating the rebounds and making easy baskets to a get an early lead, Daniel Masiuk of Blacks played with ease as he managed to dribble past his defenders for easy layups. It was the Police that was leading at the end of the quarter. The lead did not remain long as Nichula Liyanage of Blacks shot 4 three pointers in a row to give HSC a sustainable margin. Police caught up soon as E.Venujan penetrated the defence with ease. The game moved to a fast paced situation as both teams were energetic. Chanaka Sameera and Nichula Liyanage of Blacks ran fast break situations to help HSC pull away from Police. It was Sujeewa Gunasekara who did the damage and helped Police to still be in the game. As the last quarter began Police gave a hearty fight at the start but it was the defence given by the big men in Blacks who managed to halt the Police and give Blacks the win.
