Sparkling performance by Indika Gamage secures a silver medal in Abu Dhabi Marathon

The Federation of United Arab Emirates came alive once again as the seventh edition of the Abu Dhabi Marathon 2025 was concluded during the last weekend. After a brilliant run, Sri Lanka’s marathon and triathlon player Indike Gamage secured a silver medal in the mixed race event.

This elite marathon event, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and held under the sponsorship of ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), attracted more than 37,000 runners across its various race categories, including the full marathon (42 km race), relay marathon, 10 km, 5 km, 2.5 km, and the race dedicated to People of Determination (approximately 5,000 runners in the marathon and relay marathon, 8,000 in the 10 km race, 11,000 in the 5 km race, and 13,000 in the 2.5 km race). During the ADNOC Marathon 2025, all of the above events were featured in three categories, namely, the men’s division, the women’s division, and the mixed race event. Most importantly, this massive event gave an opportunity to the participants not only to compete but also to share the brotherhood with the athletes from over 80 countries.

Sri Lanka’s top athlete, who had brought glory at several international competitions, competed in the mixed race event by coupling with a female athlete from the Philippines, Logene Anib. Gamage kept his stamina throughout the race and delivered a spirited run with a stunning timing of 03 hours 09 minutes 29 seconds to win the silver medal and also won tenth place out of 271 teams in the entire tournament.

Apart from his magnificent talent in marathons, Gamage is a complete package who has already excelled in triathlon events. A month ago he secured a bronze medal at the T100 Dubai 2025. After competing in the 30–34-year-old men’s category, which consisted of a 750 m swim, a 20 km bike ride, and a 5 km run, he finished third with an impressive timing of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 24 seconds. This was a highly competitive global event where 1222 athletes featured from over 120 countries, and Indika finished 26th in the men’s category and 30th in the overall event.

Another breakthrough victory came in the way of Gamage as he clinched a silver medal in the Dubai Ajman Triathlon 2025 competition. The extravagant event was concluded in Dubai Ajman City, where he participated in the Sprint Team Relay category, where he completed a 750 m swim, a 23.2 km bike ride (4 laps), and a 4 km run (1 lap). This extravagant annual event was organized by the U.A.E. Triathlon Federation and featured over 250 athletes from 20 countries.
