The visiting South Africa U19s dominated their drawn two-day warm-up encounter against Sri Lanka U19s Board XI which ended today at MCA grounds.

The home team resuming from their overnight score of 33/3 were soon bowled out for 149 just one hour into the second session. Royal College batsman Pasindu Sooriyabandara was the top-scorer with 34 runs while captain, Ayana Siriwardana made 28 runs.

For the visitors, left-arm seamer Akhona Mnyaka was the most impressive bowler taking 3 for 15. Left-arm spinner Daniel Moriarty and right arm off-break bowler, Kenan Smith captured 2 wickets apiece.

The Proteas’ opted to bat again without enforcing the follow-on and batted through the whole second day till close of play to end the game in a tame draw.

 First innings’ centurion, Raynard Van Tonder continued his good form with the bat before the youth Test series scoring yet another unbeaten half-century. Opening batsman Jesse Christensen made a half-century as well.

Isipathana College right arm off-spinner, Ayana Siriwardana was the lone warrior for the hosts’ taking 4 wickets for 77 as the visitors posted 214 for 4.

The first Youth Test will commence on 23rd June at P. Sara Oval grounds.
