Galle CC, who ended their campaign with a total of 134.44 points, were crowned as the champions in the previous season. Leo CC and Malay CC secured the second and third places with 129.685 and 117.705 points respectively.
This year’s edition promises plenty of intrigue, with four teams who featured in the SLC Major Clubs 3-Day Tournament earlier this year, set to compete in the Tier ‘B’ 3-Day Tournament for the very first time. Having been relegated after finishing at the bottom of the two groups, Sinhalese Sports Club, Negombo Cricket Club, Ragama Cricket Club and Kandy Customs Sports Club will now look to make a strong statement in Tier ‘B’.
These clubs have already participated in the Limited-Overs Tournament and the T20 Tournament in Tier ‘B’. After being demoted, SSC reached the final of the T20 Tournament, but suffered a 6-wicket defeat to Malay CC, who continued to showcase their dominance at Tier ‘B’ level. However, in the Limited-Overs Tournament, SSC managed to clinch the title, defeating Moratuwa SC by 4 wickets in the final.
With an exciting mix of seasoned campaigners and promising youngsters, the Tier ‘B’ Competition continues to play a crucial role in shaping Sri Lanka’s domestic cricket pathway. Teams will battle it out across multiple venues in the traditional 3 day format, offering players vital long format experience as they push for higher honours.
