Five matches of SLC Major Clubs 3-Day Tournament 2023 commenced today (10th November) at several venues across the island.
Nondescripts Cricket Club managed to take honors on Day 1 of their encounter against Chilaw Marians Cricket Club thanks to Niroshan Dickwella’s valiant half-century and their collective disciplined bowling effort.
After restricting the Chilaw Marians to 208 runs, NCC posted 132 runs for 3 wickets at the close of play. The opening batter Dickwella made an unbeaten 85 runs off 96 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Sachithra Perera’ impressive bowling spell helped Galle Cricket Club to restrict Negombo Cricket Club to just 133 runs in their first innings. Dilshan Munaweera fought with the bat for Negombo CC, scoring a vital half-century, but it was Galle CC’s Perera who stole the limelight with a 4-wicket haul for his name.
National capped speedster Asitha Fernando and wrist-spinner Dushan Hemantha also impressed with the ball in their outings, picking up 4 wickets each for Colombo Cricket Club and Burgher Recreation Club respectively.
