Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has formally requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host an additional three T20Is during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in August 2026, supplementing the two Test matches already scheduled to be played in the island nation.
SLC President Shammi Silva confirmed the development during an informal media interaction at the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters, stating that the move was made as part of a broader effort to support the country’s recovery following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Silva revealed that India had earlier expressed its willingness to tour Sri Lanka in late December to play two T20Is specifically aimed at raising funds for cyclone relief. However, those plans could not be materialized due to logistical constraints, primarily the unavailability of a broadcaster within the limited timeframe available.
“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organize it, especially with no broadcaster available,” Silva said.
Silva noted that the proposed additional T20Is in August 2026 would provide Sri Lanka with an important opportunity to generate much-needed revenue while keeping global focus on ongoing recovery initiatives.

The SLC President also confirmed that income generated from the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan will be donated towards flood relief efforts, further underlining the board’s commitment to supporting communities affected by natural disasters.
SLC has been actively involved in multiple initiatives to aid relief efforts, including discussions with overseas cricket boards to explore international fixtures and fundraising activities.
