Young Lankans make bold reply

Former under 19 national players Sadeera Samarawickrama and Minod Bhanuka made half tons as the Sri Lanka A Emerging Players reached  201/4 at close on the second day of their second four day game against the South African Emerging players at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium today(7).

Earlier in the day, the Sri Lankan bowlers put up a better show as they picked up the last five South African wickets for just 62 runs to restrict them to 375 runs. The flood gates opened when David White was trapped in front by Kasun Madushanka for a well composed 137.

The Lankans took control from then on as Amila Aponso ended up with four wickets while Binura Fernado picked up three. Clyde Fortuin was unfortunate to miss out on a century as he was the last man out for a well made 92.

In reply, the Lankans got off to a good start before opener Kusal Mendis(23) was cleaned up by Linde with the score on 56. Sadeera Samarawickrama, the other opener, went on to make a well composed half century before he was dismissed for 63 while Minod Bhanuka made 67.  A couple of strikes late in the day by Markram put the game in the balance but the Sri Lankans ended the day on top on a day that saw the pendulum swing both ways.
