SL women crash out of World T-20

102

Sri Lanka women suffered a second straight loss against England in the World T-20 to crash out of the competition. There was high hopes that Sri Lanka women will make it to the semi-finals when they started off the campaign by beating India in their first match. But after that, they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of West Indies and yesterday crashed to a seven wicket defeat at the hands of England.

Sri Lanka women could only post 85 runs yesterday after electing to bat first. England reached the target with seven wickets and 24 deliveries to spare.

Only skipper Sashikala Siriwardene made a decent 38. None of the other players managed double figures.

Siriwardene did well with the ball too claiming two wickets for 15 runs in her four overs. There was little contributions from others, however.

West Indies and England go through to the semi-finals from Group ‘B’. Sri Lanka’s remaining match of the group stage against Bangladesh on Tuesday is of no relevance. Currently, Sri Lanka are placed fourth in the group with two points. India too have two points, but have a better Net Run Rate.
