SL Ports Authority stun NCC; Tamil Union suffer third consecutive defeat

SL Ports Authority CC sprung a major a surprise when they defeated a star-studded NCC outfit while Tamil Union suffered their 3rd consecutive loss as the third match day of the Premier Limited Over Tournament 2014/15 concluded on December 9th at various grounds. 

SL Ports Authority vs NCC

On a rain-hit evening, SL Ports Authority managed to pull off a 26-run win (D/L method) against the high-riding NCC at Maitland Place. 

Batting first, NCC managed only 170 runs with left-handed Jehan Mubarak stroking 77 runs while left-arm seamer Isuru Udana took 4 wickets. When the game was stopped due to rain, the visitors were 137/4 in 38 overs and they were 24 runs ahead of the D/L par score.

NCC – 170 all out in 45.3 overs: Jehan Mubarak 74*, Isuru Udana 4/36, Sachithra Serasinghe 2/24, Dananjaya De Silva 2/30.

Chilaw Marians vs SL Air Force

Strong bowling performance helped Chilaw Marians to record a 59-run win over SL Air Force at Katunayake. 

After making only 168 for 9 in 50 overs, Chilaw Marians bowling attack led by fast-bowler Saliya Saman destroyed the Airmen as the home team managed only to score 109 all out in a low-scoring affair.

Moors vs Bloomfield

Moors held their nerve to snatch a close 2-run win over Bloomfield in another rain-hit game at Braybrooke Place. 

Janaka Gunarathne top-scored for Moors with 86 runs as they posted 244 for 9 in 50 overs. Bloomfield in their chase was 234/9 in 41.2 when rain intervened and according to the D/L calculations, the hosts were 2 runs ahead. Dilhara Lokuhettige and Chathuranga De Silva’s impressive 3-wicket hauls ensured the win for Moors.

CCC vs Tamil Union

CCC Left-arm spinner Dulanjan Mendis snapped 5 wickets to rattle Tamil Union as the visitors cruised to a 6-wicket win at P.Sara Oval grounds. 

Tamil Union batting first made only 104 all out in 36 overs as the left-arm orthodox spinner grabbed 5 scalps for only 20 runs. Maduka Liyanapathiranage made an unbeaten 65 to ensure their safe route to victory with only 4 wickets down.

SSC vs SL Army

Persistent rain washed out the evening session as both teams had to settle for 2 points each at Panagoda. 

Lakshitha Madushan (94) and Asela Gunaratne (73) helped the Soldiers post a daunting score of 279 in the board against the defending champions and the visitors were 58 for 1 in 16 overs when the heavy rains brought a premature end to the game.

Badureliya vs Saracens

Dushan Vimukthi’s unbeaten 77 and Gayan Sirisoma’s 4-wicket haul helped Badureliya record an easy 7-wicket win over Saracens at Katunayake. 

Badureliya comprehensively restricted the hosts for 166 all out with Geeth Kumara making a telling a contribution of 48*. Left-arm spinner Sirisoma took 4 wickets for 28 runs. One drop batsman Dushan Vimukthi made 77 in 131 balls to help Badureliya get over the winning line.
