Skipper Dushan Hemantha and spinners steer Petes to victory

St. Peters College won by an innings and 29 runs in their interschool cricket match played against St. Sylvesters College at Bambalapitiya today. 

 

The Peterites dominated proceedings during day one getting their opponents out for just 101 runs in 38 over’s. They then took on the willow, batting with great confidence spearheaded by their skipper and senior man Dushan Hemantha who carved a well deserved 71* at the end of play yesterday. 

Ton up Hemantha 

He continued his form on to day two, as he went on to notch up a deserving century scoring an unbeaten 102 runs off 129 balls. It was a sight for sore eyes as Hemantha dispatched the ball to the boundary at will scoring 6 boundaries on his way to a ton. 

With a healthy overnight lead of 75 runs the Peters increased the lead to 120 runs ending their first innings on 221 for the loss of 7 wickets in 53 over’s. Dulina de Silva was the man who was unbeaten on 14* along with skipper Hemantha at the time of declaration. 

Leg spinners destroy Sylvesters 

St. Sylvester’s after a very disappointing outing with the bat in their first innings failed to hold on to their wickets in the 2nd innings as spinners De Silva and Fernando tore through the Sylvester’s batting line up. Left arm leg spinner Julian De Silva was the pick of the bowlers for the Peterites capturing 5 wickets for 29 runs while right arm leg spinner Chrishan Fernando ended with figures of 4/13. 

Both spinners bowled with a lot of control during day two, getting a lot of assistance from the pitch. Sylvester’s could only musters up 91 runs in 43.4 over’s giving the Peterites an innings and 29 run victory on home soil.
