P. Sisira Kumara, the Top Ranked Amateur Golfer in 2018, took a commanding 4 stroke lead in the opening round of the newly constituted LECTRA SRI LANKA GOLF GRAND-PRIX 2019, conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union, sponsored under the Pin Fernando Grand-Prix, by Apparel Technologies of the Bobbin Group of Companies, Teed-off at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

A competitive field of 60 Golfers from the RCGC, NEGC, Victoria Golf & Country Resort, and the Defense Forces, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air- Force and Sri Lanka Navy participated.

Youngster J K Januka Dilshan returned an even par round to be in second place on 71. N. Amarapathma secured 3rd spot with 72, followed by G M Pradeep Kumara 73.

M U Chanaka Perera, the current Sri Lanka Amateur Champion returned a 76, lying in joint 9th place, nine strokes behind the leader, whilst Uchitha Akash Ranasinghe who won all the Stroke play Qualifying Round prizes at the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship, shot a 6 over par 77 to be in joint 11th place. The 4 Round February Edition cut-off will be implemented after Round 2, where the top 20 and ties will go in to the final two rounds.

The LECTRA SRI LANKA GOLF GRAND PRIX 2019, inaugural edition seems poised for an interesting finish but above all, the year- long GRAND PRIX promises to develop the Amateur Golfers of Sri Lanka to rise higher in the World Amateur Golf Rankings bringing pride and glory to Sri Lanka.
