St Peter’s, S.Thomas’ and Nalanda register massive outright wins

Here’s a round up of the Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament matches which took place today. 

St.Sebastian’s College v St.Servatius College 

St.Sebastian’s College got the better of St.Servatius College on day one in their Group C clash at Moratuwa. The visitors won the toss and elected to field first. St.Sebastian’s College managed to post a respectable total of 220 runs with Tashik Perera, Nishith Abhishek and Sachith Prasanna scoring valuable cameos. Chethaka Denuwan was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 59 runs.

The boys from down south soon found themselves looking at a huge defeat when they came on to bat. They were bundled out for just 85 runs with Vinuja Ranasinghe taking 4 scalps. At stumps on Day 1, St.Servatius College was 2 for no loss, following on in theirs second innings.

Dharmaraja College vs. St.Aloysius College 

Dharmaraja College took honors on day one in their Group C encounter against St. Aloysius College at Dharamaraja College Grounds. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. But they couldn’t post a good enough total to pressure the visitors as they were bowled out for 135 runs. Niduka Samarasekara and Sandun Madushanka picked up 3 wickets each.

With the ball in hand, the Rajans forced the issue with some tight bowling. They managed to take 5 wickets for just 48 runs before the heavens opened up and play was called off.

Nalanda College v De Mazenod College 

Nalanda College kept their good run of form going as they beat De Mazenod College by an innings and 15 runs in their Group B game at Nalanda Grounds. The hosts resumed play on day 2 with 154 runs on board for the loss of 2 wickets. Ravin De Silva and Chamindu Wijesinghe scored half centuries to propel Nalanda College to a massive total of 302 runs.

The De Mazenod 2nd innings was no different to their first. The only resistance came from Nadun Dilshan who was stranded on 69 while his team was bowled out for 141 runs. Kaveesh Madurapperuma was the chief destroyer with 6 for 13 runs in the second innings with the ball for Nalanda College.

S.Thomas’ College v Prince of Wales College 

S.Thomas’ College registered an easy win by an innings and 13 runs against Prince of Wales College at Mount Lavinia. The hosts resumed day 2 with 182 for 3 on board. Ravindu De Silva and Umayanga Suwaris were unbeaten on 45 and 49 each. The pair kicked off from where they left off. Suwaris went on to make 66 while Ravindu scored a splendid 122 runs. The Thomians posted 300 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

POW 2nd innings was worse than their first. They were bundled out within 42.5 over for just 139 runs. Dilan Pieris was the pick of the bowlers with 6 for 28 runs.

St.Peter’s College vs.Presidents College

St.Peter’s College registered a convincing win over Presidents College by an innings and 74 runs at St.Peter’s College Grounds. The Peterites did an overnight declaration with a healthy lead of 189 runs. The resistance from Presidents College was much better than their first innings. Left arm spinner Kanishka Maduwantha rattled through the innings. He took 6 wickets as Presidents College were bowled out for 115 runs.
